Funds for a documentary film, a format that is rarely a profit making venture, rely overwhelmingly on donations from grants and private donors. This project will most likely rely on an ongoing fund raising strategy requiring that funding work be carried out throughout production. One positive note, however, is that funding a documentary in the production stage is much easier than in the pre-production stage. Therefore it is estimated that over 50% of the projected budget required to complete this film will come in the form of smaller grants (less than $15,000). In the grant realm, several non-traditional methods will be employed to search for funding. Organizations and trade groups such as The American Psychological Association, The American Psychiatric Association, and The American Psychiatric Foundation will be approached. |
