Float trip less than one week away! I called our outfitter on the Eleven Point river and they suggested aluminum canoes because they are more stable. They also suggested putting in at Cane Bluff 8 miles above Greer Spring and taking out at Riverton. She said there is enough water on the river now to make that possible and that the area between Riverton and the 142 bridge is not as interesting. I have created this Google Map that details several points for this trip including the location of campgrounds along the river, the outfitter where we will park our cars, the campsite for Thursday night, the put in point, and the take out point. You can click on any point to get more info about it. Getting ThereTo get directions from your house click here then right click on the green tent icon on highway 19 and click "Directions to here". Serene and I will be leaving my house (located here) between 9 and 10 am on Thursday morning. Anyone who wants to caravan down is welcome to meet us at my apartment no later than 9am Thursday morning. Please keep in mind that this river is twice as far away as Bearcat. If you are planning on coming down Friday morning (which I highly advise against) remember that you will have to leave at 5am as we are floating at 10am. If you are not going to caravan with us you'll find us at this campsite (labeled with the tent icon on "the map"). If you are late or lost or something and we have gone floating without you just go to the outfitter and I'm sure they will take you to the river. I'll let the outfitter know the names of anyone who is missing when we leave and they should be willing to take you to the put in spot. There is a good chance you'll be able to catch up with us. FoodFor cooking we will be bringing simple stuff; a pot, a pan, stove, plates, bowls, cups. Everyone is welcome to use this stuff so we don't double pack a bunch of stuff we don't need. You are welcome to do whatever you want for food. If you want to go in on food with Serene and I let me know by Tuesday as we are shopping on Wednesday. Our menu consists of the following: Breakfasts: Granola Bars, Oranges, Apples, Oatmeal, Bananas, trail mix, etc. Lunches: Sandwiches (fake meat, real meat, lettuce, pickles, mayo, mustard, avacado, tomatoes, peanut butter, jelly, etc.) Snacks: trail mix, chips, carrots, celery and peanut butter, cliff bars, broccoli, etc. Dinners: Mostly quick meals we're not entirely sure yet but one night on the river we will be having chili I believe. Perhaps Cobbler at camp on Thursday night. How do I pay?The outfitter does not take credit cards! It is cash and (strikingly) check only. You can pay me when you get there. I will have to drive to the outfitter when we set up camp to make sure everything is squared away. Hopefully I will be doing this about 2pm on Thursday and I will be paying for everything then. Canoe rental is $30 per canoe per day. $30 per day * 3 days = $90 / 2 people = $45 per person for canoes. Camping in the Mark Twain National Forest at the Greer Campground is $10 per night for each campsite (not per person). Each campsite holds 8 people and I will pick up this fee. How do I opperate a Canoe?I found these good videos on Expert Village. We aren't really White Water Canoing, but they are good nonetheless. Video set one Video set two Who is going?
